How 2 Wash Microfiber Towels
There’s a lot that goes into detailing a car, and How 2 Detailing aims to narrow some of it down. One of the topics we’d like to toss out of the bucket of mystery and into common knowledge is How 2 Wash Microfiber Towels. Yes, we know, our highly valued information is compiled (pun intended) on towels.
Microfiber towels are different from your standard bath towel. A standard bath towel would leave marring on automotive paint and other finely finished and polished surfaces! While there are those who do not care about what towel they use, we do respect that idea. But, as detailers, and also as business owners, we aim to get the most we can out of our investments. Microfibers require a certain procedure to be cleaned properly. Firstly, you should have on hand a dedicated microfiber detergent. P&S and The Rag Company collaborated to create such a detergent, marketed “Rags to Riches”. This detergent is incredibly useful, and also provides care instruction for towels.
Secondly, the towels should be washed on warm or hot settings in the washer ONLY. In the dryer, they can be washed on LOW or NO heat. This difference is critical to maintain the lifespan of the microfiber towel. While this is crucial, so is the fact that you can not use fabric softeners, bleach, scent boosters, or dryer sheets. These all have the potential to destroy the towel. If you have retired your towels, wash them however you like! But for our intents and purposes, and for the sake of teaching you “How 2 Wash Microfiber Towels”, this is how to properly clean your towels.
Microfiber Storage
Storage is also another issue that arises with microfiber towels, and is just as important as proper washing techniques. Any bin will work so long as it is sealable. Separating towels “like with like” is also an excellent practice. “Like with like” means that towels that are used for glass are stored with other glass towels, towels used on the paint are stored with other paintwork towels, and so on. This not only makes it easy to teach others, but also keeps you from grabbing the wrong towel for a grimy job! When it comes to washing, wash “like with like” for glass towels. All other towels may be washed together. Glass towels have a different pile than paintwork towels, and mixing the two could degrade the glass towels faster.
There you have it! Now you know How 2 Wash Microfiber Towels! While this isn’t something that is known and published widely on every towel pack, it is a crucial thing to remember when you purchase dedicated microfiber towels for your vehicle.
